Tales of Alba

EDINBURGH, A CITY OF WRITERS.
Edinburgh is a city of writers with a literary tradition extending from bards to contemporary literature. Its streets, squares and cafés still preserve the stories of the authors who shaped Scotland's identity.

Scottish literature is diverse and rich. Over the centuries, it has been expressed in different languages — Gaelic, Scots and English — and has reflected both rural life in the Highlands and enlightened thinking in the city. Edinburgh was home to poets, novelists, essayists and thinkers who helped define the country's cultural identity.
Join us on a literary stroll through the streets of Edinburgh, the first UNESCO City of Literature (2004). Discover the stories and places that inspired immortal authors such as Robert Louis Stevenson, Robert Burns and Sir Walter Scott, and follow the narrative thread to contemporary voices such as Muriel Spark, Ian Rankin and Jackie Kay. A tour where the city itself becomes an open book full of poetry, mystery and unforgettable characters.
